In the United States, kids soccer leagues are more popular than ever. Millions of children are playing each week across the country — in parks, school fields, and community clubs. From age 3 to 14, families are signing up in record numbers, looking for fun, fitness, and maybe even a future in the sport.
But as demand grows, one question keeps coming up: are kids really getting the best soccer training possible?
At We Make Footballers, we think there’s more to be done — and that starts with rethinking how we approach soccer training for kids in the US.
Many popular programs like i9 Sports and AYSO have done a brilliant job making soccer accessible and fun. They focus on safety, inclusivity, and community. They introduce kids to the basics like dribbling, passing, and shooting. These programmes matter — especially for younger age groups just starting out.
But there’s a gap when it comes to development.
In many kids soccer leagues, sessions are geared towards participation rather than progression. Kids of all abilities are often lumped together, with limited time to build real skill or confidence.
For instance, the no-heading rules in some leagues are great for concussion prevention, but often coaches don’t replace these elements with equally useful game-based learning.
A lot of weekend leagues run on volunteer coaches with limited training. That’s totally fine for casual play, but not ideal for kids who want more out of their time on the pitch.
We believe every child deserves high-quality coaching — even if they’re just starting out. That’s why we’ve brought our elite European training model to the US, starting in Miami.
At We Make Footballers, we focus on the individual. Our coaches get to know each child personally and help them grow technically, mentally, and emotionally — not just as players, but as confident young people.
Unlike some kids soccer leagues that only offer match days, we provide structured training sessions designed by academy-level coaches. Each session is planned to improve a specific skill: dribbling, defending, shooting, passing, teamwork, and decision-making.
We don’t just roll out the ball and hope for the best. We use modern tools like video analysis, sports science, and movement-based learning to help kids improve while having fun.
Our sessions are full of energy, positive reinforcement, and creative games. We make sure that every player leaves with a smile — and a little bit better than they were last week.
The US has everything it needs to become a global football powerhouse: talent, passion, and numbers. But what’s missing is consistency in training and a clear development path — especially in kids soccer leagues.
At We Make Footballers, we’re not here to replace the great programs that already exist. We’re here to complement them. To work alongside local clubs, coaches, and families to raise the bar for what youth soccer can look like in America.
We believe in long-term development, community collaboration, and putting kids first.
A kids soccer league is a structured programme where children play matches, usually weekly, as part of a team in a seasonal competition.
Children can start as early as age 3 in a play-based setting. By age 5–6, they can begin structured training with more technical focus.
Look for qualified coaches, small team sizes, focus on development (not just winning), and a fun, safe environment.
We combine academy-style coaching with fun, age-appropriate games. We focus on individual growth, not just match results.
We currently run sessions in Miami, Florida, and are expanding across the US soon.
We’re not a traditional kids soccer league. We’re a development academy that provides weekly training to help children improve their game — whether they play in a league or not.
